Work Permit Procedure for Arbor Students

All minors ages 12 through 17 must have a “Permit to Employ and Work” on file with the employer during the full term of their employment.  Students desiring a work permit must follow the procedures outlined below to obtain a work permit.  A different protocol applies to children wishing to obtain an entertainment work permit, further information for this permit is included below.

Once an offer for employment has been secured, the prospective employer may furnish the required document or you may download a copy of the Request for Work Permit and Statement of Intent to Employ Minor form (form B1-1) here to download and print the form.  The student must have an offer of employment first before the school may complete this form.

  1. Fill out the B1-1 form and have the employer sign it.
  2. Return the B1-1 form to Arbor Academy for our signature and a letter of support; please note all records must be complete for us to support employment for your child.
  3. Take the completed form to your local district for issuance of the work permit.
  4. It is highly recommended that the parent read the Child Labor Law found at http://www.dir.ca.gov/DLSE/childlaborpamphlet2000.html

Permits issued during the school year expire five days after the opening of the next succeeding school year and must be renewed [EC 49118].
