Arbor Academy Partners with Apex Learning for 6-12

Apex Learning® Academic Curriculum, providing standards-based courses in math, science, English, social studies, world languages, electives, and Advanced Placement* for grades 7 through 12. A viable option for all students, from those who are not succeeding in traditional programs to students capable of accelerating their learning. Formative and diagnostic assessments integrated throughout the curriculum provide frequent opportunities to gauge student progress on an ongoing basis. Students are required to demonstrate what they have learned with summative assessments at the end of each unit and semester. Objective, computer-graded assessments such as multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, and true-false give immediate feedback to students and teachers. Available only through schools, Arbor Academy offers courses at less than $115 per course with various options available.

Common Reasons Families Site For Choosing Independent Study

Arbor Academy offers year round enrollment and we specialize in mid term transfers; families may join Arbor Academy at any time in the year. Starting with Arbor Academy is a simple process. New Independent Study families will speak with an enrollment advisor prior to enrolling with Arbor Academy, or families may opt to complete the initial online enrollment independently. We can offer a great deal of oversight and support if you need it, or give support just when you request it. We help with ongoing free supplemental web-based curriculum starters, and email support. With responsive and personalized services, Arbor Academy families get to experience the true freedoms and joys of Independent Study their children.

After your child's initial enrollment has been processed, and as your initial paperwork is being prepared, an Arbor Academy credentialed teacher will be assigned to your family. This very special included service will give you access to a credentialed teacher who will assess your needs, and assist you in figuring out what will best work for you and your child. During your initial Arbor Academy teacher consultation, a credentialed teacher will ask about your child’s prior schooling history, any strengths or weaknesses, skill levels, interests, learning styles, special needs, future goals, and special schedule considerations (especially important for actors and athletes).

As outlined, all Arbor Academy families will receive a welcoming letter and student survey from your assigned teacher. Families may also opt to contact their teacher by email or phone for an initial conference. This included service provides our families a seasoned professional teacher to offer them guidance and support. Additionally, all Arbor families are afforded the opportunity for continuing teacher support ranging from online, mail, and telephone services to private tutoring by a credentialed teacher. All Arbor students will receive one of our highly lauded Learning Style Assessments. This will serve to assist you and us in the important choice of your student’s curriculum and learning activities. Your student may also take additional formal assessments that will offer further guidance in making the right choices for your child. Additionally, each Arbor family may request a Personalized Family Curriculum Webpage, based upon all these assessments to help in tailoring the child's curriculum. Arbor Academy also offers our trademarked SiteSchool and ArborLinks online newsletters.

Arbor Academy is here to assist the family in many areas so the home educator can focus time and energy on the child. We will assist you in helping your child meet recognized learning standards, whether they are California Standards, or National Standards. To allow the parent to verify and report student learning, Arbor Academy has designed and furnishes simple reporting frameworks for the parent teacher. In addition, all graduating students leave Arbor Academy with a standardized and clearly formatted transcript.

Optional services, unique to Arbor Academy, gives us the opportunity to offer customized curriculum selections, based upon your child’s assessments, current grade level, learning style, and educational objectives. Arbor Academy also collaborates with several traditional, supplemental online and full online curriculum providers to better serve our families. These publishers include: Saxon, Oak Meadow, Switched on Schoolhouse, PowerGlide Languages, Miquon, Rosetta Stone, MindSprinting, Sonlight, Apex Learning, Holt, McGraw Hill, Prentice Hall, among others.

Arbor Academy is proud to serve a broad range of students and families all with different reasons for having selected Independent Study as the best educational choice for their child. We are very proud to serve those families who must travel due to work obligations, military families, and even international students. Our student roster includes many successful working actors, competitive athletes, gifted students, students with special needs, along with the 'average kid' simply better served by the freedom to learn at their own pace that home Independent Study provides. While our students come from a broad community of learners, it seems that even more options exist in how Arbor Academy students pursue their educational goals. Arbor Academy student families encompass a wide range of learning styles, interests, and skill levels. Arbor Academy supports all of these Educational Methods and more:

Arbor Academy High School families needed to have a clear, structured High School Program offering two types of diplomas: General and Academic (for the college-bound student). By offering options for pursuing graduation goals including assisting families with early graduation, standardized testing schedules, CHSPE assistance and college planning, we help you take the guesswork out of the often-confusing High School experience.

Many Arbor Academy High School students choose to participate in Concurrent College Enrollment. This gives the high schooler experience in the college arena, and helps pave the way for the future. Arbor Academy can also act as a Community Service Liaison. We also act as a liaison between several Southern California Independent Study support groups or we can help find a local support group near your community. Additionally, Arbor Academy is happy to offer local field trips to those in the Southern California area. (But, do you have to live in Southern California to be an Arbor Academy student: absolutely not!)

Arbor Academy is prepared to help guide you and your student in the right direction. We can be as “hands-on” as you would like us to be; it is your choice. We can provide curriculum support, assist in curriculum purchase or allow the family to make these important decisions entirely independently. We are ready to support your decisions for your child's education and offer guidance when, and if, you find it necessary, while offering custom private school services.
